Trabajo de investigación

Post by Patricia Prieto »

Gracias!!!

Good morning,
I´m Patricia Prieto, I´m teacher of History in Granada (Spain) and I searching information about the Spanish emigration in US. I would like to know the "history of life" about Spanish emigrants between 1880-1930. If you are a descendents of these people, I would ask you about their life, experiences and dreams.
Thank you very much.

Hello, Patricia! Welcome to the forum.

There are a number of stories about immigrants in the forum already, including a few newspaper accounts. Most of the articles appeared in La Nueva España, so using this search in Google finds many articles:

You might also search on "Saul Fernández" or "Elisa Campo" (who were the authors of many of the articles), like this:

Code: Select all

site:asturianus.org "elisa campo"
Here are a few of them:

The section of the forum with the most information would be these:
http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=4
http://www.asturianus.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=2
Although that last section has a lot of stories, they're mixed in with genealogical searches, which makes them harder to find.

Finally, I'd highly recommend the book, Pinnick Kinnick Hill: An American Story by Gavin Gonzalez. It one of the few books (maybe only book) on the Asturian immigrant experience in America. It is a lightly fictionalized account of one Spanish family’s experience in West Virginia following the emigration of Spanish zinc workers to the industrial hub of north central West Virginia shortly after 1900. It is a dual language book, with opposite pages in English and Spanish. There's more information here:

To buy Pinnick Kinnick Hill on Amazon (in the US, at least), you can use this link:
