Re: Not sure

Donna Your research arrived today. Yahoo and thank you. I have gotten more details about Jose and Catherine such as the years they immigrated to the US. Catherine 1840 and Jose 1848. Given his age of marriage he came to the US around at 17. I have eliminated Oliber Juan as his pension filing appears...

From family stories Jose became very Americanized and may have used the name Joseph instead of Jose on official documents.

Donna Leon I do not know much about and it will be wonderful to recive what you have found. HE did not teach his children his language as he felt ...

Re: jose

Thank you Donna you are wonderful. What is odd is the use of an alias: Oliber Juan. I am pretty sure it is Oliver Juan. Curious, I have never heard of him having an alias. Maybe it will help locating him in Asturias. You keep finding all these neat little details for me. He may have been in both, do...

Terechu

Thank you for the information I will save it for the future when I find Jose's parents names. As far as I know he was the only one of his family that came to the US so I could have relative still in Asturias.

I have heard my grandfather make similar claims of his Fernandez family and being part of the forces that drove the Moors from Spain. Many years ago my Uncle visited Madrid and open the phone book to find 28 pages of Fernandez.

Catherine and Patricia are Fernandez children. Only William and Robert are the Wilson's. I remember them well. Uncle Bill was the familly commedian.

Thomas and Anna moved to NJ around 1934. The family still living in Brooklyn and long Island would come for weekends.

In the 1910 Kings County, Brooklyn Census, Joseph Fernandez and his wife Catherine Mills are found living with their 37 year old Divorced son William and their 13 year old grandson John Fernandez [I do not know if John is son of William or George. George W. Fernandez was not a vet of the civil war. The family story is he singed up with Roosevelt for "Remember the Maine". My cousin has a picture of him in Uniform on a horse.

Donna you are fantastic. Jose worked in the New Yoker Hotel. this is my family. All the names match up. George was my great Grandfather who died in 1910. A house fire caused a medical condition and he died three years later. William Wison was George's best friend on his death bed he asked him to loo...

Census records would be most appreciated, it may give me an area to find Jose's and Katherines marraige record. Katherine was and Irish immigrant. I am not sure if they always lived in Brooklyn all their married life. They may also have lived in Manhattan. I am going off of what I remember of stored...
